Bhagavad-Gita Chapter 1, Verse 7
 | Chapter 1: Observing the Armies on the Battlefield of Kurukshetra |
| Verse: 7 asmakam tu visishta ye tan nibodha dvijottama nayaka mama sainyasya samjnartham tan bravimi te |
Translation:
But for your information, O best of the brahmans let me tell you about the captains who are especially qualified to lead my military force. Explanation:
Even though Drona is a brahman, he has taken on the profession of a ksatriya and is therefore present to fight on the battlefield. The army of Duryodhana was much larger than that of the Pandavas and had many powerful fighters. However Duryodhana did not want his warriors to become too complacent and so he had described at great length the powers of the Pandava army. At the same time he does not want to discourage his own army so he now begins to glorify the great fighters in his own army. The use of the phrase 'my military force' also reveals the egoistical nature of Duryodhana.
